Eberron: Rising from the Last War (2019)
The definitive 5e Eberron book. 320 pages introducing the Artificer class, all setting races, Sharn adventure hook, and 38 monsters.
View on D&D BeyondEberron has no central adventure path. Rising from the Last War is the setting book — it includes a short introductory adventure, but most Eberron DMs are running homebrew or adapting published modules to the setting. If you came here expecting the Eberron equivalent of Curse of Strahd, that's the first useful thing to know.
This directory covers official sourcebooks from the 2004 Eberron Campaign Setting through Forge of the Artificer (December 2025), Keith Baker's DMsGuild supplements, published adventures across three editions, battle maps, the Manifest Zone podcast, and ambient audio — sorted for DMs starting their first Eberron campaign and for DMs mid-campaign hitting the setting's specific rough edges.

I haven't run a long Eberron campaign. I've run Storm King's Thunder for 31 sessions and I know what it's like to work a published WotC module past its structural failures. I'm writing from that position — someone who reads Eberron closely and finds it genuinely interesting, not someone who has lived through a two-year Sharn campaign.
The first thing you need to settle before picking resources is where your campaign starts. Sharn or wilderness? Those are different campaigns. A Sharn-based urban game is a noir detective setting: factions, guilds, vertical city geography, House politics, crime. You need Sharn: City of Towers (3.5e but the lore holds) and a clear answer to how the dragonmarked houses relate to each other. A Khorvaire wilderness/political campaign is a post-war faction puzzle: the Five Nations, the Mournland, competing governments, and faction clocks instead of random encounter tables. You need Five Nations for the regional flavor and Forge of War for the Last War history.
Two known prep problems regardless of where you start. First: the noir/pulp tone slips after a few sessions if the faction work isn't doing its job. The tone isn't atmosphere — it's mechanized by the dragonmark house tensions. If the houses feel like background lore rather than active factions with goals, the noir evaporates. Second: the warforged and changeling mechanics are philosophically interesting and mechanically thin. The identity questions hit hard, but the resolution is weak. Build NPCs who force those questions into scenes that don't require a rules answer, and your players will do the heavy lifting.
The page is organized by resource type, not by DM problem. If you want a reading order instead, start: Rising from the Last War → Keith Baker's blog Eberron Index → Exploring Eberron → Sharn: City of Towers or Five Nations depending on your starting location.
Wizards of the Coast's latest Eberron sourcebook brings the setting fully into the 2024 D&D rules era. Forge of the Artificer delivers a completely revised Artificer class with five subclasses, eighteen new backgrounds tied to Eberron's unique cultures, redesigned Dragonmarks that integrate with 2024 mechanics, and expanded guidance for running fantasy noir campaigns in Sharn and beyond.
Released December 2025. The reason to buy it depends on which book you already own. If you have Rising from the Last War and your group is on 2014 rules, Forge of the Artificer is the upgrade path: a revised Artificer with five subclasses, eighteen 2024-style backgrounds, and Dragonmarks rebuilt for the new mechanics. If you have not run Eberron before, Rising is still where you start — Forge assumes you already understand the setting's noir register and wartime aftermath.
Start here. These four books cover the 5e mechanical foundation and the setting framework. Get Rising from the Last War first — everything else assumes you have it.
